DataCol provides GPS Surveys to
assist with asset management. These surveys are tailored to meet each
individual client's needs.
For network lines companies this means knowing the exact positions and details of every asset in the field.
For meter owning utilities our service provides exact positioning and details of every meter.
Some benefits here are:
Meter Reading: No more hard to find meters for field service personnel and contractors. This translates to increased productivity and customer service through reduction in estimates.
Asset Management: Exact management and location of every type of meter in the field. This sort of detailed asset management allows you to; i) easily find and track meter types, ii) value and age your assets precisely, iii) monitor meter performance per brand, iv) accelerate change out programs

GIS Mapping: Take this detailed asset information and manage it visually on your computer. It allows you to visually assess geographic asset location and type density. A drop down box lists all detailed asset information and the GPS asset coordinate. Links to job track information provide hands on records of all site visits and work done with that asset. All presented simply on a map on your PC.
A typical survey may include:
DataCol is able to provide up to sub-meter accuracy in the positioning of assets. This type of accuracy can only be achieved with our access to GPS Base Stations across NZ that verify the accuracy of the positioning on a continuous basis with special handheld equipment. This is important because differential GPS positioning has inherent errors in it due to atmospheric conditions. Base station data automatically corrects the Handheld GPS coordinate error, giving you precise positioning coordinates.
To do this, the original GPS data needs to be interfaced with the base station data. By matching the base station poling that took place at the same time as the GPS handheld poling, the error correction figure for that time is able to be applied to the handheld GPS coordinate.
Base Station Data is available on the Internet 24 hours per day for seamless download - straight into Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office software or via your web browser.
Base station data is constantly interfaced with the information received from the handheld equipment to ensure maximum accuracy from your GPS work.
Our service is:
Simple: Base files from all GPS Control base stations are available from one web site. All you have to do is to log in using a standard web browser and download multiple files or use Pathfinder Office software for automatic download. No time zones to consider, no clunky bulletin board services to deal with, no time wasted selecting and downloading each file individually, and - if you are on a network - no modem on your desk, just use your existing LAN Internet connection. [Through many networks an hour-long data file takes just 2-3 seconds to download!]
Reliable: The entire network of base stations is constantly monitored. There is considerable redundancy built into the system to ensure that the file you need is available. You can check the status of any GPS base station directly from the web site. All files are backed up and archived to CD after four months and catalogued files are available on request.
Accurate: We are in a position to utilise the latest technology GPS receivers and base station software to ensure maximum post-processed accuracy. By using the data to post process, you will typically achieve double the accuracy compared to using real time differential services. Also, data can be phase processed where appropriate for even greater accuracy.
